Alois St. Hartmann (Luis Hartmann) nació en Checoslovaquia en el año de 1891 la que abandonó en su juventud al iniciarse la Primera Guerra Mundial. Gracias a su madre, pudo esconderse en un barco que lo llevó hasta Pensilvania, lo que le salvó la vida; ya que dos de sus hermanos murieron al enlistarce en el ejército. Con nuevos amigos recorrió varios países para llegar a Panamá en 1911, estableciéndose en la Provincia de Chiriquí, específicamente en Hato Volcán, donde, en 1912, construyó la primera cabaña existentes en esas selvas vírgenes.

Alois St. Hartmann (Luis Hartmann) was born in Czechoslovakia in 1891 which he abandoned being a young boy when the first world war began. Thanks to his mother he could hide in a ship that took him to Penssylvania, saving him from dead since two of his brothers died after joining the army. With some friends he visited some countries untill he came to Panama in 1911, he settled down in the province of Chiriqui, especifically in Hato Volcan, where in 1912, he built the first cabin in these virgin forest.

Alois St. Hartmann con su duro trabajo y junto a sus hijos fundó varias fincas, siendo la primera Tizingal, que en lengua indígena quiere decir "Mina de La Estrella", la segunda finca fue levantada en los bajos de Cerro Pando.

Alois St. Hartmann en 1931 con su primera esposa y nueve de sus hijos. Alois Hartmann contrajo matrimonio con una joven llamada Susana Troetsch con la que tuvo diez hijos, perdió a su esposa al nacer su décimo hijo, de su segundo matrimonio nacieron cuatro hijos más.
