Directions (Driving or taking the bus)

Your destination is a roadside town called: Santa Clara.

If you can get to DAVID, the capital of the province of Chiriqui, then get a bus or directions to Volcan. The road up to Volcan takes 45min to drive from David up. It is a right hand turn off the PanAm Highway in a town called Concepcion.

After getting to Volcan, take the left hand fork at the little police station and continue towards Rio Sereno (the Costa Rican border). This is a very curvy road that winds west through coffee and cow country. (This drive is described in the back of The Birds of Panama by Ridgely and Dr D. Engleman).

After ~30km the first gas station and grocery store on the right side of the road is Santa Clara. from Volcan this will take 45-60 min. Ask the bus driver to stop at Finca Hartmann, a few hundred meters beyond this gas station. There is a sign for Finca Hartmann on the left side of the road, and the gravel road to the Hartmann's house is opposite the sign. Once you make the ten minute walk to the Hartmann's house, they can drive you to the cabins another 15 min into the forest.
